I'm new enough to the internet to not be of much help there, but I can tell you that there are 3 different .270 cartridges in current production and it is VERY important to know whether yours is a .270 WSM (Winchester Short Magnum), a .270 Winchester, or a .270 Weatherby Magnum before you start using the reloading data!

Go out and buy yourself a reloading manual. I like Noslers #5. It is quite universal in data, and is also informative and entertaining. Depending on what your shooting at, the 130 grain Partition or similar bullet will probably suit you well. You don't need to shoot a 150 grain bullet, even for elk. Just make sure you put a premium bullet in the right place, and that animal is dead on his feet. Most people don't know that the 150 grain bullet was originaly made for the .270 back when because hunters of the day were complaining the 130's were causing too much meat damage. That's when Winchester brought out the 150's. Naturally the heavier bullets with better controlled expansion were a hit for hunting larger game, but now-a-days, with premium controlled expansion bullets of superior design, you can do this with a lighter bullet. That means a flatter shot, less recoil, and more confidence with less flinching. Good hunting.

Go to remington's or federal websights. Got some bullistic data on them. Also, go to www.hodgdon.com Got a whole bunch of load data.

Thanks for the info ,, I'm not reloading but was just wondering what the 270 win meant. Would the short mag or a different model be stamped on the barrel ? I know someone with I think a remington 270 pump and gave me the 270 win shells said they would not work in his gun ..
