Default 7mm-08 or 25-06 ENCORE

I know there isn't much difference between the two, but what do you like best for deer and coyotes in IN. Shots will probably be under 250 yards at standing game from a stand. Which gives you the least recoil and flattest trajectory with a 15" barrel?
Thanks

The .25-06 is flatter shooting out to 250yrds according to Remington. And why a 15" barrel?

I am assuming with a 15" barrel you are talking about a handgun, right?

I have known a few guys that use the 7mm-08 and were quite successful but never knew a single person to use the .25-06 in their Encore pistol.

If I am not mistaken, in order for the .25-06 to be decently efficient, it requires almost if not the same amount of tube as most magnums do (about 24"), so if it were me I would probably choose the 7mm-08. I could be wrong but you may want to check a few ballistic tables and research this to see.

Hi coyothunter,

I'm with pyral on this one. If you're talking about a 15" barrel the 7mm-08 is the way to go. The .25-06 is one of those cartridges that does better in a longer barrel as opposed to a shorter barrel. Even with today's powders it performs better in a 24" barrel instead of a 22" barrel. With a 15" barrel you will leave alot of unburned powder.

The 7mm-08 will also leave some unburned powder in a barrel as short as 15". But it is more ballistically efficient in a shorter barrel than the .25-06 is. Don't get me wrong, the .25-06 is a great cartridge, it's just that it's performance will suffer more in the shorter barrel than the 7mm-08 will.

Now if you were to ask me which cartridge to get for coyote and deer, and it was in a firearm with a barrel of at least 22", I'd say the .25-06!

Dave

I went with the 25-06 in 15". We dialed her in at 150 yards and she was about 1.5" low at 200. I think I could really make this thing group with a trigger job and good shooting rest. To make a long story short, this thing rocks. I shot two deer with it at 150 yds, and they don't like it!! I don't know if I can bring myself to put it down and carry the Gold next year. The Encore is too much fun. Now I have to get some 80 gr noslers loaded up for coyote season. Ill keep you posted.

Nice choice IMHO.
