You can always get the savage pretty cheap. NEF's, lots of em out there. Go to Google and do a search on different companies, or www.gunbroker.com. That will give you an idea.

BTW, Howa makes an excellent rifle at a good price in addition to the afore mentioned Savage and NEF/H&R.

You can get a NEF .223 bull barrel for around $200.00 with a scope rail . I have this rifle( .243 ) in this model and its shoots excellent.

I bought a Savage heavy Bbl several years ago. It had a synthetic stock, and a matte finish. I paid $300 for it used. At 100 yards, it would shoot 1/4" groups with the right loads. And if I did my part. Now that the Accutrigger is coming out, their is a surplus of used bolt guns around.
