410 buckshot
Never knew these things existed untill I spotted a box today: 3" 000 buck, 5 pellet 410 shells.
Before everyone starts yelling, don't worry, I don't plan on taking them into the deer woods. My question is, what good are they? I bought a box for kicks and am curious how they will pattern, but being a city slicker I won't get a chance to try them for a while. I suppose they would be good for home defense but that does me no good, us Canadians aren't allowed to defend ourselves.
What are your thoughts, will 5 pellets coming down a 410 barrel single file retain any energy or pattern at all? Would they retain anywhere near that of 000 buck out of a 12g?

The only 2 reasons that I have heard of are ,1 to make the better for home defense and 2 the shells are shot out of 45/410 pistols ,TC and Thunder 5 ect.

RE: 410 buckshot
I've used them for coyotes, although they didn't really perform any better than slugs nor any better than the #4 shot I was used to running through it after them.
I've also loaded a few into this O/U Derringer .45colt/.410 that I had around for personal/home defense...they were a bit more than I cared to spend for that however, so once I ran out, I never bought another box.

RE: 410 buckshot
I'm a 410 nut...and I've shot these. They're not great, and they lose velocity fairly fast. They also seemed to spread really quickly, even from a full choke
Would surely do nicely for up close groundhogs (20yds and in) and also home defense.
If I loaded my Rem1100 .410 with 5 of these, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be on the other end at 5yds...LOL

Guess I didn't make it clear, I used them for coyotes at the same time I had them for home defense, so I ran out of them in coyote fields, not in the home!!
