Default Just put a Yugo 24-47 on layaway!!

I just put a Yogu 24-47 on layaway. 8x57, excellent conition, 100% bluging MATCHING bolt and reciever. Rifling is good, no linseed oil or cosmoline, bayonet, ammo pouch, owners manual, sling. Man I can't wait to try this thing out. If it will shoot better than my VZ 24, I may have a 150 or so yard deer rifle on my hands and not have to worry about anything!! WOOHOO!!! Oh yeah, I will end up paying a total of $150 for it plus the gun check, so $165 total. Not too bad of a deal I think. Regular price for it is $199.

CB,

What type of 8x57 is it JS, JRS, etc? If it is a JS you have a cartridge with considerable more range than 150 yards, providing it shoots well and has proper sights (scope). I have a Turkish mauser in 8x57JS and I load 150 gr sierras in it. This round is just a step beneath the 30-06, but not by much.

The 24-47 is based on the Mauser 98 action which is a JS bore. The model 89's are the other, J I believe, and have the .318" bore. Unless I am wrong, but have been reading up on the mausers a little lately. Not only would not having the JS bore limit the range farther, but could be a potentially dangerous situation!

Even so, my range is still limited to how far I can accurately see with those sights on this thing.

It 's an "S" bore, .323. No European military rifles made in "J" bore since 1903. Sounds like a great buy.

The 8mm mauser (as chambered in this years Remington Classic) is also known as the 8x57 JS Mauser.

Not bad, but I think you could have gotten it cheaper by getting a Curio & Relics licence...

No doubt I could have gotten it cheaper John. Only problem is I have been habving trouble finding info on it!!! I have gone to the BATFE Website and found info on Curios and Relics, even emailed them, to no avail!! What can I do about that??? I have no clue where to start and do not know anyone who has one who could lead me in the right direction.

charlie brown-have you looked over at Parallax Bill's site? He has a forum exclusively for C&R FFL discussions. They have info on how to get the license and rules and regs. They have sites you can download the forms and the addresses to send them to. There's a lot of other info about the rifles on his other forums as well. Try this link.
