Default Thompson Center 375-JDJ Handgun?

I watched Bass Pro Shops Hunting & Outdoor World Last night. Larry Weishiem(spelling) was hunting whitetail deer in texas with his TC Handgun. I have never heard of this cartridge before? What can you guys tell me about it? Can you provide a link to a ballistics chart that has it listed? I can not find any information in my reloading manuals. The 375-JDJ has peaked my interest.

Thanks,

WK

It is a 444 marlin necked down for 375 bullet . A friend has a TC barrel all I can say is wow ! From what I have read and heard it is for big deer , elk , bear , moose ect. , my Hornady fifth edition lists it 225 gr at 2200 fps , 270 gr at 2000 fps and 300 gr at 1900 fps .

Wolf Killer, the jdj series of cartridges have been with us a long time. The 375 JDJ is a pretty awesome cartridge in a Contender. I beleive it has taken the biggest critters on earth. I have had one for about 15 years now and use it mostly for South Texas hogs. I have talked with Larry several times and he does like the 375 version too. The 309 JDJ and 6.5 JDJ are also popular rounds, but the are based on the 225 Win, not the 444 Marlin. Johnch's statement on velocites are right on. My favorite bullet is probably the 225 gr Hornady, with A-2520 and IMR-4064. It's all that is needed for hogs. I have played with the 300 grain Sierra SBT and Hornady 300 RN too, it's a little too much but a hoot to shoot.

I can tell you that a good ring/scope mount is a must for this one, I learned the hard way....shearing the base off twice, I then fixed it with using 6 number 8 screws instead of the 4 #6's. No problems since then.

doubleA.......here's a 100 yard group with some 300's

As every one has said the 375 JDJ has taken alot of big game I even heard of it taking a elephant.
For years this round was for handloaders to use and to have, but now T/C is loading their own ammo for it,under their name.
I have been thinking of having one my self in the new G2,sounds like a awsome gun.

The "JDJ" comes from the man who developed those loads, J.D. Jones. He's "king" when it comes to handgun hunting and has taken Africa's big five with the 375JDJ. Another website to check out is www.SSKindustries.com He owns that company and there is plenty of info on there about the JDJ rounds. Something else you may want to check into is the book called "Hunting for Handgunners". J.D. Jones and Larry Kelley wrote it and its some interesting reading if you're into handgun hunting.

Thanks again,

Wolf Killer
