Default Limbsaver or Pachmayr - comments please

Anyone have experience with the Limbsaver recoil pad? How does it compare to the Pachmayr? I have a couple of Pachmayr Decelerators and like them fine but I'm hearing good things about the Limbsaver by Sims Vibration Laboratories. I'm wanting to put a pad on a Browning BAR that I'm setting up for my daughter with a Boyd's replacement butt stock. Would like to reduce the felt recoil as much as possible. Any personal experience comments on these 2 pads would be appreciated. gg.

Hello Goodguy.

I use the R3 recoil pad by limbsaver. And I like it better than the Pac. pad. It works!!

One quick question for you.

Is your Rifle a SYN. or is it wood?

I have heard that some of the guys here have had trouble with the Limbsaver pad on the Browning rifles. I dont know if they have tried the grind-to-fit pads on them. But they make several different types to fit many different types of rifles.

I like the Limbsaver pads myself.

OH by the way, sort of like the song says.

It's wood. Actually I removed the original stock and am in process of replacing it with a Boyd's because it has to be shortened for daughter and I didn't want to chop the origional just in case of re-sale down the road. I would install a "grind to fit". gg.

I have a slip-on limb-saver on my 30-06 and it works like a champ. I highly recommend them.

Put a Limbsaver on my Encore and it really soaks up the recoil!
I like them better than Pach. Good Luck!

I recently put the Remington R3 pad on my 870 Super Mag 12 gauge to better deal with the mega-kick of 3 1/2" magnum(b) turkey loads with 2oz. payloads. The difference between the stock solid hard rubber 870 pad and the R3 (which is made by Sims and is identical to the Limbsaver recoil pad with the Remington name on it) is like night and day. The darn 3.5" shells will still loosen ones teeth no matter what pad one uses, but the Limbsaver REALLY helps.

I have had good luck with both. The Sims seems to be "softer" and spread the recoil out better.

Ask your gunsmith which pad he would rather grind down?
