Default Canadian Commies want U.S. gun laws strengthened!

The new Canadian Democratic Party leader, Jack Layton, wants to lobby the American government to strengthen our gun laws! Apparently they are not content screwing up their own people and country, they want to nose into American business! Hopefully our government will show them the door, and tell them where to get off at!
Sadly, some American politicians are quick to court foreigners and appease these outsiders! The UN, and countries like Canada, France, and Germany would dearly love to see our Constitution and especially our Second Amendment rights deluted! I wonder why?!!!!!

I just wrote a lengthy response to this thread and lost it all when for some reason I wasn't allowed to post! Well, before I write my long discussion again I will try to see if this short post is accepted.

Okay, it went through, so here goes.

The Canadian long firearms registration law has been a disaster. It was pushed initially by a fellow who admitted he didn't understand why anyone should be allowed to have a gun, except maybe some target shooters who would be allowed to keep guns stored at a club. The party in power used a terrible shooting tragedy in Quebec, anti-crime, anti-accident and anti-suicide arguments to get the public support for the law. They did polls showing more than 70& of the people supported the law. And they said it would only cost a few million dollars. (Of course in the polls the people were not asked whether they wouild like to spend the money directly on things like suicide prevention if it was more effective to do it that way.) President Clinton praised the Canadian law and said he wished the US could do the same. (I am going to post this now and continue later.)

Well, the registration law has cost almost $2 billion dollars. The major party that is out wants to scrap the law entirely. The party in power that was responsible for the law wants to make some minor changes. Then from left field come the socialists, who want to keep the law, which they claim does not work because guns are so easily smuggled from the US. Therefore they want to lobby the US government to have similar registration laws. As usual, the socialists don't care about how much something might cost, and don't think about whether the law is solving the problems it was invented to solve.

The socialists have a program of spending much more money on education, health care, new social programs, and government participation in business. They would pay for it by raising taxes significantly on the top 50% of wage earners, on estates, and on corporations. They used to have power in two large provinces, British Columbia and Ontario, and their policies of high taxes and bloated government brought those provinces to their knees. So in this election I don't think they have a chance to form the federal government. But under some circumstances they might be able to form part of a government and try to bargain some of their programs through.

This is a repeat of other previous posts, just worded differently and the argument still goes on but.....Please do not put all of us Canadians in the same group as a few government morons. We are not all of the same opinion. As a matter of fact, personally, I would love to see some of your "gun laws" imposed up here. I would also like to be able to hunt big game with a side arm here.
I whole heartedly agree with you, he should worry about the mess in his own back yard before he even thinks about sticking his nose in his nieghbours yard.
This is just one man`s opinion, maybe just not worded properly.

$2 billion dollars could have bought a lot of very effective crime fighting and suicide prevention. People realize that now. If the law is scrapped it will be a big boost to keeping freedom in the US, because it will focus attention on the cost and purposes of any law, and the alternatives to solve whatever problems a law is designed to solve.

Unfortunately Canada has a British parlimentary system of government, which means that the party that is elected gets to act like a dictator for four or so years. (In the US the founders built in checks and balances in three branches of government to make sure the government would not get too powerful.) That means you vote for a party, not an individual, and as a result one has to take the whole package. The party that wants to scrap the gun registry and lower taxes is also the one that wants to do other things which are definitely not popular. So the situation is not as good as in the US, where you can vote for candidates you think are good, and if elected they have at least some power to reflect what their supporters want rather than what a national party leader demands.

Lets not tak canada. And as it was said before, don't put us all in the same basket as our elected officials. actually, what they call elections, I call crap. People out east are brainwahed to supportting the liberals. I know I'm gonna get it for that, but how long have they been in power and what good did they do? Get this, front page of our newspaper yesterday showed the liberals #1 election priority. My conservatives want to scrap the gun registry and put the money into a sex-offender registry, bring the gay marriage issue that the liberals said yes to, back into the courts, and more money to our military and mounties. The N.D.P and green parties, want similar things plus cleaner air, water etc. Our friqqin' liberals priority is to legalize pot! Make marigaunna a legal product! They made law abidding gun owners criminals, and criminal druggies legal citizens! How does this happen? I beg any canadians out east, vote P.C! The population out there outnumbers the rest of canada 3 to 1. thats where the voting power is. And if the liberals win again, I'm heading south!
