Default 30-06 springfield accelerator

Does anyone have experience with 30-06 springfield accelerator? A 55 gr bullet traveling at 4000 fps seems like great varmint medicine. Is this an accurate round in the right rifle?

Never heard of anyone that has shot it liking it very much.

probably much better off loading a 100-125 gr bullet at slightly slower velocities.

I have a few laying around but have never tried any.I worked PT at a gunshop.Years ago they were popular when they first came out.Slowly sales dropped off to almost nothing. In fact I thought Remington discontinued them?I faintly remember BATF was concerned that using the saboted bullet didn't leave any of the rifling marks on the bullet.Don't know whatever became of that.If you want to shoot varmints buy a varmint gun.I just don't have much faith in the Accelerator. The way sales dropped off tells me they weren't what Remington thought they were.

I have heard and read that it could be pretty accurate in certain rifles, but overall it must have been dissappointing because it has almost dropped off the face of earth. Like RR said I would suggest you get a varmint rifle if that is what you want to hunt. I am really interested in the new .204 Ruger. It is supposed to fire a 32 grain bullet at 4225 fps. That would be as fast or faster than the accelerator, without wasting a lot of powder on all that overbore capacity of the .30-06. Plus there is no sabot involved that might induce instability to the bullet.

I have shot the 30-30 accel. out of my NEF and accuacy was good enough for really big varmits but would not be my choice for the small stuff.
The problem is that 30 caliber have twist rates that don't lend themselves to accuracy for these smaller bullets being shot at that high velocity.

Dear Joe,
I tried them many yeares ago at the Koko Head range and found them to be so-so in accuracy out of my VERY accurate Rem 700. Also, after many hrs of work and such to get my Oheler 33 set up down next to the Handgun Silouette Range, I found one thing NEVER[I repeat] NEVER shoot sabotted bullets over a chronograph. Kills them DEAD! Good luck and Aloha from Oregon[wish it were Hawaii!!]

I read that the accelerators were as accurate as your rifle, in other words if your rifle normally shoots a .5 inch group that is what you should expect out of the accelerators if it shoots a 3 inch group that is what you should expect out of the accelerators.

It only stands to reason that this is the type of information that you would read. If Remington told you that you would only get so-so accuracy...how many boxes of bullets do you think they should expect to sell?
IMO this is marketing and sales hype.
