Default Anyone have a 356Win in Lever?

I might have an opportunity to buy a NIB 356Win Model 94 Winchester. I notice this wasn't a popular round and ammo is hard to find. All you can find is winchester 200gr. But I figure for a reloader like myself, it would be fine. Seems to have some umph compared to a 30-30.

I don't have one, but I would if I could. The 356 is a great deer round.
I would let the gun make the decision for me. Some Winchesters I have picked up felt awful. Others, even some fairly new ones seem much better. I like the new tang safety and some of the magazine/barrel/stock configurations.

Did you aver really regret buying a gun?

Well, I will tell ya one thing, I don't like the feel of a 94 over a Marlin.

You'll get no argument from me on that one.

Hi bigcountry,

I had a Big Bore 94 chambered for .356 Winchester. (I gave it to a brother as a gift, he had more children than rifles.) It's a nice gun and an equally good caliber, (very nearly the equivalent of the .358 Winchester which was also underrated). With good load development the round is quite capable of taking elk/moose size game to 200 yards or so. With good load development it is capable of handling deer sized game to 275 yards or a little more. As long as a person realizes the capabilities of the cartridge/load they are using and are familiar with its trajectory characteristics.

The .356 Winchester is a very good hunting cartridge. Unfortunately it didn't come with as many bells and whistles as many people believe they need. It has never let either myself or my brother down!

What more can you ask for?

Dave

I had one for a while. I also had the 307 at the same time. Its a good hunting rifle to about 200 yards. It is, like all Tubular feeds limited to flat or round nose bullets. If anyone needs them I think I still have a hundred or so new Winchester Brass for it.

if you reload i would go with some 180gr. or 225gr. pointed bullets and just put one in the chamber and one in the tube.
