Default Savage Rifles..

Any opinions on Savage rifles? I am looking at a 7mm-08 in the 10GXP3. It's at a reasonable price but don't know much about them. Any good or bad ?

The downside
Not as "pretty" as some others...a bit bulky , not streamlined
Safety sometimes hard to operate w gloves/mittens
Fit and finish of the bolt a bit "sticky" or "sloppy" in the view of some folks

The UPside
Very affordable, reliable, accurate
Good variety of calibers
Recently improved trigger
Swap barrel system available from Midway using Adams & Bennet barrels w/ mANY fine calibers available

Being a Winchester man, if I used anything else, it would be a Savage!

I had a savage that I just traded to my dad in 25-06. I shot constitent .75-1" groups with handloads. When my dad got it he put a tan web synthetic stock on it and it looks real sharp. If the there is a complaint I have on savage it is there stocks are not the best quality wood. My older 110 has a much better looking stock than the newer ones. I've herd nothing but good from there new accutrigger. good value for the money.

Savage is the way to go. I own several. It is one of the most accurate out of the box.

Without a doubt the Savage is a very accurate rifle and with the new trigger a sizeable step up from the past. It'll shoot as good as any gun regardless of cost.....having said that...there's not a single one in my house!!!

well, i just ordered the gun.

I am kind of excited about the caliber as well. Seems like a perfect median between small and large caliber. The 30.06 will be sighted in with 180 gr noslers for hunting larger game and the 7mm-08 will be used this year for whitetail with 140 gr.

got the packaged gun; sling, ear muffs, targets, 3x9 simmons scope, wood stock, for $410 brand new.

Good purchase........Some day you might want to use that Simmons scope on something else (old 22 or something) and get yourself a better scope for the gun.
Great utilitarian gun.
