Default Scopes on shotguns/rifles help needed..

Can someone explain to me why they make scopes especially for shotguns? Rifle versus a slug gun that is. Wouldn't a rifle scope work the same on both guns? I'd have to imagine that the recoil on both(depending on the gun) are around the same. Granted some are more and some are less. But using a rifled slug barrel shooting 3" mags has quite a bit of kick. Thanks for the info.

they the scope manufactures say there is a difference between shotgun, muzzleloader, and rifle scopes. I for one have a 3-9x40 Leupold scope on my Remington 11-87 12ga., a Nikon 3-9x40 on my muzzleloader, 2 other shotguns have Bushnell rifle scopes, my friends also have rifle scopes on there shotguns, and muzzleloaders. We see no difference, nor any problems.

Here's a few differences on Shotgun Scopes vs Rifle Scopes

1. Shorter parallax setting such as 50 or 75yds yds
2. longer eye-relief, some even having unlimited eye-relief
3. More Compact (similar to a pistol scope)
4. 1/2" clicks instead of 1/4 or 1/8
4. Some have reticles designed specifically for shot guns like circles, diamonds, heavier cross hairs, larger red dots, etc.

As for construction for recoil, there's isnt much difference if any at all.
