Default BARREL TEMPERATURE

I was shooting today and went and shot a 5 shot group and then shot 1 more. That is a total of 6 shots from a cool barrel with it about 65 degrees outside. When I felt the barrel to put the gun up it was extremely hot. I could grab it but probably not hold it for over a couple seconds. Is this enough to ruin a barrel with getting it to hot?? Thanks
Brian

Not going to ruin the barrel really, but really speed up throat erosion. For heavy barreled guns, I don't mind to fire off 5 rounds. for ultra lights, I like to shoot two rounds, and let cool for 8 min. If you keep up your routine, you might shorten the life from 3000 rounds to 2000. I am really talking out of my butt, when I say that. I have never did an official test. I shoot for accuracy, so I know for me to get it, I have to let the gun cool. Another benefit, is if you shoot wood stock, getting the wood hot can cause swelling or warping.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you're hunting and you need a second shot, you don't usually have time to wait for the barrel to cool. On the other hand at the range I wait a few minutes between shots. I usually have the .22lr too, so I take a few shots with that while I wait. I passes the time, and helps me to keep focused.

I will usually only push 3 rounds then I will let it cool. Good luck.

I also wouldn"™t worry about it too much. It may wear the barrel quicker, but as a non-competitive shooter I have never had a problem. If your concerned about it, maybe cut the groups down to three shots between cooling off or take more time in between shots. What ever you do just make sure it"™s consistent with it. For a hunting rifle, which is my main interest, if the first 1,2 or 3 shots out of a cold barrel hit the same point of aim I"™m a happy camper.
