Default Cleaning Lead From Slug Barrel Rifleing

I just bought a used slug barrel for my shotgun. It does not shoot very good groups at all. After talking to a fue friends I found that the person that sold the barrel never used sabot slugs through it. Is there any way to clean the lead from the rifleing.

Wet the inside of the barrel with Kroil, allow it to sit overnight.

Use Choreboy copper wool wrapped around a cleaning jag to scrub the lead out.

There are also specially treated cleaning cloths that some gun shops cary that remove lead, but I've never tried them.

I usually put a wet patch through real good and use a steel bore brush instead of the bronze. If it's been a while you could let it set a period of time first. Scrub a while then wet patch it to see how far you've got. A gun dealer turned me on to the steel brush after I asked the same question years ago. Gotta love those new copper slugs after seeing how clean they shoot.

The rag that was mentioned is a Lead Away rag by Klean Bore. I use one for my stainless guns. I would not recomend it for use in a blued barrel though and the instructions on the package also says that it may remove blueing. IMO your best option is to scrub, scrub and scrub some more. The Hoppes tornado brushes do a good job on heavy fouling.

I would use JB's bore paste. Instructions on the container states one should shoot the neglected firearm, and then clean the bore with JB's while the barrel is still warm. The fouling in the barrel will become soft due to the warm barrel, and can be removed easer. Good luck.
