Default hamer fell off of a eatons 12 ga

i got a old 12ga shotgun from my grandpa when he died but the little bolt to hold on the hamer is striped and wont hold it is a side by side break open and i would use it a lot more if it was not going to fall off. should i glue it back on or what. i can not re tap it. thanks for any help

Take it to a gunsmith. If it is just a matter of drilling and retapping a hole it will be a minimal cost. There may be something else happening that you are not aware of and could be a dangerous situation waiting to happen.
