Default Good cheap rifle in 300 wby?

I posted this in the gun review but thought it would get more responses over here. I am looking to get a new 300 wby. I have my eye on a vanguard. I have shot the vanguard and have no complaints. I was wondering what other makes carry the 300 wby that fall in the 500 dollar range. Any suggestions?

I have seen a few Remington 700 BDL's at various gun shows in the past. These were around 500-550. Other than that the Remington 700 CLassic has been chambered for the 300 Weatherby. I would buy the Vanguard over these two rifles. All will have a 24" barrel and be comparable in weight. The Vanguard will weigh slightly more.

Winchester also made a run of 300 wbys although the one I owned didn't shoot very well. Of those you mentioned, I would lean towards the vanguard although I have shot a remington that shot great w/ remington 300 wby ammo. You might also keep an eye out for a used weatherby synthetic stocked mark V. I've pick up a number of these rifles in the $475-535 range. If you can find a used one in good shape, I'd jump all over it.

Burnie...Not sure if you're locked into a 300WBY, but the Wal-Mart here constantly has 340WBY's that run $398 with a cheaper Bushnell on them. And, I'm not one to buy lots of guns at Wal-Mart. The scope isn't great, but would suffice on a 22.

They're the black-stocked, blue barrelled Vanguard.

Pro-line
I checked out wally world and if I dont find any other gun of interest Ill probably by the vanguard from wally world. It runs 375.00 here. I have yet to find anyone who could beat that price. Closest any one has gotten to that price was a little gun shop near my house. He sales them for 475.00. I would love to find a remington 700 in 300wby. As of right now no kinda luck. Im pretty sure Im going with the wby at wally world.

Bernie.....sales of the .300 Win Mag have so thoroughly eclipsed sales of the .300 Wby that the Weatherby chambering is a little scarce and Winchester and Remington have both chambered for it.

Performance with equal length barrels is so similar that the extra cost and scarsity of weatherby ammo is a "tough to justify" situation. If you really want the Weatherby cartridge, the Vanguard (Howa) is a good choise.

HI,

I recently bought a remington model 700 300 wby ss with detachable mag and factory muzzel brake. I seached every where for this rifle, finally, I walked into a run down gun store about 150 miles from my home, and they happen to have one. I paid $595.00, I dont know if that was a good price but like you I just wanted it. I tried remington ammo, did not shot well----then tried federal safari grade 180 grain partitions, they shot incredible groups (some 3 shot groups touching).
My advise to you, if you really want a 300 wby just keep looking.

GOOD LUCK
