New Rifle

Ok guys,Im looking for a new rifle for mainly deer hunting, Im looking at the Remington Model 700 LSS in 300 Win. mag or Browning A-Bolt stalker in 300 WSM,could you guys tell me which rifle works best with factory ammo???? I know both will kill deer,but I want the best for my money!!!!!

Those are two of the better rifles out there. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either. Pick the one that feels best to you and fits you the best and buy it. Were it for me and mostly for deer I would get a 270 or 280. One of my favorites is the 700 Remington that I got last year in 257 Robert.. The 7mm08 would be a fine choice as well. Depends on how much recoil you like. I don't like hardly any, bad shoulder. thus the more shooter friendly calibers.

My wife shoots a Remington Model 700 chambered in 300-win mag. She added a muzzle brake & Simms limbsaver recoil pad to it. Federal Premium ammo loaded with 180-grain Nosler Partition bullets shoots sub-1" groups. I have hand loaded 200-grain Nosler Accubonds that shoot 5/8"-groups.
IMHO The Remington Model 700 LSS is a nicer looking rifle than the A-bolt.

I have used 2 rifles for all my shooting/hunting... A Browning A-Bolt in 300 WSM and a Remington BDL in 30-06 and I like both the Browning and the Remington. When I take the time and shoot from a bench, the accuracy is very very good with each of the rifles. I often wonder how accurate they could be with someone better shooting them! Just comes down to personal preference on the make and whether or not you want to go with the Short Mag or the Win Mag. My 300 WSM shoots 180 gr Grand Slams into 3 shot groups that can be covered entirely with a Canadian $2 coin. I don't think you will be disappointed either way.

I would go for the Remington Model 700 LSS .300 Win. Mag.; you will have more choice of factory ammo. Good luck.

Remington 700 will never do you wrong. When you get into the 300s Id suggest a wby. Little harder to find but worth it. Reason I say that is because it is a much more versitile round. It comes a range of grains 150 to 220. The win or the others, the smallest you can go is 180 grains.

Browning A bolt is a great gun. I have one in 270. I still like my remington 30-06 better. No reason other than personal pref.. The remington will also be much cheaper.

I'd pick the LSS. Both it and the Browning are great guns, the LSS just looks better.

Really?, for my 300 Winchester Magnum, I buy factory loads in 150's and 165's. My reloading manual also lists many loads below 180 grains. I have been loading 165 grain Sierra bullets for 5 years.

Well you learn something new everday. I did not know that. I have been looking into the 300s because im in the process of buying a new gun, and want a 300. All my research has lead me to believe 300wby is the most versitile and powerful 300 on the market. All the ballistic charts I have seen have all but the 300 wby going down only to 180 grains.


How would you compair the win mag to the wby. I still havent bought the gun and would like some imput. It seems the win is a more popular cartridge. I have steared clear of the win because fo the above reasons. I want a 300 I can drop down to a 150 grain.

Try buying ammo for the wthby. I was messing around with my 300win mag and 130 gr bullets. I found a very fast accurate load. If I shoot my barrel out I'll get a new one. These loads are varmint loads on steroids. This makes the win mag one of the most versital cal. on the market.
