Slugs through a full choke??
Can I fire a slug through a full choke or will it harm my gun?
Another question, I have a synthetic shotgun and want to put a sling with swivels on it. Can I tap a hole into the butt stock of the gun, without worries of it coming out. I have done it in wood but never tried in synthetic.

RE: Slugs through a full choke??
It would be best not to use a full choke on a slug. Typically (best case), it could foul a sabot-type slug from doing its job and a rifled slug could be severely shaved on its way out the barrel. At worst, the slug could lodge and cause a real problem. <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
Some people sware by using the full choke, but I wouldn't want to chance it. My Mossberg recommends using an Improved Cylinder choke for slug use - and doing so has worked real well.

RE: Slugs through a full choke??
I do it when using 00 or 000 as a followup shot sometimes on the eastern shore of Maryland. Its never hurt anything and Remington told me it wouldn't hurt anything. I did it my whole life with older shotguns that didn't have the fancy chokes. Accuracy isn't much better with the full modified. As much as it cost, I would go out and buy the rifled choke if you plan to use that setup often. I don't do it unless I plan to do some sika swamp jump huntin with 00 shot. Just never did it enough to warrant buying the choke. Usually just use rifled barrel with sabots.
Hey Herman and Bill, is that the Pond Creek near Turkey Creek, Ky or Blackberry, Ky?

RE: Slugs through a full choke??
Thanks for everyones posts. The reason I ask is because I would like to shoot the slug first and follow with 00 buck after. I would like to have a tighter pattern with my 00 buck. I am using a modified right now, but haven't patterned it w/ 00 or slugs. I guess I should pattern it first and see if I need to purchase a full choke. Thanks again.

Greets,
While I am no expert, I have always been told that shooting slugs thru a full choke will at the very least cause a premature wearing out of the choke tube, so if you do it, just be sure you can replace the thing when it gets worn out.
Just my uneducated opinion!
