If you plan to use the heavy 7MM bullets, 160 and 175 then you will want the 7 MM Remington Mag. For lighter bullete ,120 130 140 and 150 then its a matter of which gun you like best. Be aware that long bullets rob powder space in the short mag and therefore will limit the velocity you can expect. If its for deer I don't think you would see enough difference to matter. If you are going for Elk or Bear then the heavy bullets may be a better choice. However with the good bullets we have today you can hunt the bigger animals with lighter bullets that we used to be able to use. Hope this isn"t confusing.

This is just my opinion....
I'd probably go for the 7mm Rem Mag because there are more guns and amm loads availible in that caliber vs the short magnum. However if the short mags keep getting more popular, this could all change.

Short mag all the way. Lighter rifle, less cycle length, some say more accurate.

BTW long bullets rob powder space no matter what cartridge you have.

I'd go for the short mag too. Federal has a lot of new loads for the short mag this year so ammo availability isn't nearly as bad as it was at first.

Wyote. Thats true but the 7MM WSM does not have the room to spare. Several of the new Manuals bring out this point. Now I just got a 270 WSM and therefore I am not knocking them. But if I had needed that extra powder room for heavy bullets I would have gone to the 270 Weatherby Mag. You can get out the manuals and check. The 7mmwsm cannot match the Old Seven when it comes to the heaviest bullets I just wanted to bring that to the attention of the fellow that ask the question. If that does not matter to him then it sure don't bother me either. Its just that the old no free lunch therory holds true here as well. If you want Shorter less capacity cases, the payout has to be somewhere. I would buy the 7mmWSM also if I was wanting a new Seven. Just trying to inform him of the tradeoffs.
