Default New rifle scope

I am looking for a scope to put on my new Sako 7mm-08. I will be using it mostly for whitetail. From what I have read I am leaning to towards the Bushnell elite scopes. Or the weaver grand slam 4.75 fixed power. What do you think of the elite 4200 compared to the 3200. Your opinion on the weaver fixed 4.75 X 40.

I think any of the ones you mentioned would give you good service. The 4200 series is the top op the line of the ones you mentioned. The 3200 is maybe the most scope for the dollar. I have not used the new Weavers but I would not not be afraid to try one.

The 4200 is brighter, clearer due to it's enhanced coatings and is also stronger in construction. However the 3200 is no slouch and as James mentioned is quite possibly the best scope for the $. Is it worth the difference to buy the 4200 over the 3200, well only you can decide. However if it is your primary deer rifle that will see lots of use in all sorts of situations (and you have the extra money) I'd opt for the 4200 personally. I own both and picked the model based on the usage, the 4200 is topping my ML mainly b/c I use it 2nd most of all my guns for hunting & the 3200 sits on top a another rifle I rarely use for hunting anymore(this is not a slam to the 3200 just I have many guns and they all need glass). I would choose either of these over a fixed if you'll have both short and long range shots with the 7mm-08, if your thinking mostly close shoots the fixed would be a ok choice.

Best thing is do some looking through the scopes of interest both in dayligh and low light situations, then pick the scope that is best for your funds and application.

First good quality scope that I got was a 3200 in 3-9x. I picked it out by taking all of the scopes and looking thru them at close and distant objects, and picking the one that was the clearest. I don't know what all the different scopes that I looked at were, but it seemed like there were about 8 or 10 of them, and they were all 3-9x.

Don't know about the 4200, but the 3200 is a pretty decent scope. In low light situations it's no match for either of my Zeiss Conquests, but for the price it's not too bad. The 4200 would probably be a better choice, though.

I own a Bushnell 4200 Elite and have it on a 257 Roberts. I bought the scope a month before deer season. I have Leupold Vari-X III's on my other high power rifles. I bought the Bushnell because it was cheaper and in my opinion just a bright and clear. It's much more scope than the Vari-X II's in my humble opinion. The only difference in this and my Leupold's is the Leupolds have more eye relief.
