Well, I'm in the market for a new semi-auto 9mm. I would like to get a more compact, concealable gun, but I'm not that sure of all my options. I have looked at some internet sites, but really haven't made it into a store yet. Due to a budget set by my wife I'm looking in the $350 range.. new or used.
I really like the Glock (My brother-in-law has one) but it's a bit too pricey. I saw the steyer 9mm on an Internet site and it looks pretty nice.
There are any number of concealable 9mm's you should be able to find used in that price range. (Fewer new ones....but a handful.) I am going to assume you are looking for a CCW. Even used Glocks are hard to find without exceeding the limit you set. Taurus makes the Millennium and the Millennium Pro which may come close to that price range. Also you should be able to find some of the lesser known brands in that range, (Bersa, Llama, EEA, etc.). And of course there is the KelTec P-11. It usually goes for about $230. new in western Pennsylvania. Which would leave you with enough for a spare magazine, a good carry holster.....and plenty of practice ammuntion. I guess it decides which route you choose to take. (Plus you didn't specify if that budget is for just the gun.....or the gun and accessories.)
Good luck with your search!
Dave
P.S. And if CCW is the goal.....don't forget about $24.00 for a photo carry ID. ($19.00 I think minus photo.) Check this site:
Look at CZ or the steyr.. The steyr around here is pretty cheap, but it's a nice gun. I haven't fired one but from what i have been told they work just as well as anything out there. The cheapest i can find it for is about $369 here in the midwest.
Like semi mentioned....you could also check out CZ. I own a CZ100 that was in the $350. price range. My CZ is chambered for .40 S&W though.....not 9mm. The CZ did come boxed with a spare magazine, plastic carrying case, etc. But it would leave nothing extra for holster or ammo if they also have to come out of budget.
Additionally, the CZ100 is fairly compact, light, and emminently shootable. It is not the smallest of the weapons suitable, but it is well made!

I might even consider a Makarov if the intention is CCW...Iknow it's not a 9mm parabellum, but a worthy round to be sure.
The guns can be had for as little as 200 bucks, usuallly come complete with a holster and a spare magazine and surplus ammo is readily available and very affordable.

Well, After spending a good bit of time at the local gun shop, I ended up with the Taurus Millenium Pro (PT-111) (Good tip AKBOUND!). I looked at a good bit of the ones you guys posted, but the Taurus felt the best in my hands. I put a box of 50 shells through it today when I brought it home, And it is one sweet shooting machine! THe gun is great, but the shooter needs work
The Springfield XD-9 would fit the bill pretty nicely i would think.......I was pretty impressed with this gun (Except I would like a .40) I think it won some awards for best something or other?
*Edited because I just saw that you made your decision!.....good luck with the Taurus!
Congratulations! Taurus usually provides a nice product for the money. I think the more familiar you become with your new pistol....the better you'll like it. It should meet your needs very well.
Good luck with that new pistol. Hope it serves you and the wife well!
