Default RANGE REPORT ON REM. 788 .308 WIN.

I shot my Rem 788 .308win. for the first time today. I shot the first group of Winchester Power Points 150 gr. and a 3 shot group measured .73". I was very pleased. The first two shots cut holes. The second group was Sierra Spitzers handloaded with RL-15 45.5 gr. and a 150 gr. bullet . They measured right at 1" . The third group was with Nosler Ballistic Tips 150 gr. on top of RL-15 45.5 gr. They measured 1.25" . All groups were 3 shot groups and were fired one after another in 35 degrees temperatures. I did not alllow time for the barrel to cool between shots, but it only warmed somewhat anyway. I was trememdously pleased with the results considering it was the first time shooting it. What do you all think. By the way all 9 shots hit the same POI. They were all within a 2 inch circle. Thanks

I had a 788 in a Left hand bolt and also a 6mm left hand. I had a couple 243's right hand. The 308 was a strange gun. I could never get it to shoot real small groups but the thing would hit within an inch or inch and a half of the bullseye every time. One might be high then one to the right or left but never more than about that distance from the point of aim. I never missed a deer with it. You could count on the darn thing to hit real close but never right on. I never did figure it out but I new when I shot at a critter it was going to go down.

I never tried to sight in the scope. I was wanting to see how consistently it hit in the same area. i was especially pleased considering I shot 3 different load combo's with bullets and they all hit it the same general area. Now I will sight the scope in and be happy.

The 788 while not beautiful is known for its accuracy. My Father has had a few and all but one was a tackdriver. Sounds great and good luck.

What do I think? Well, let me put it this way...don't sell that gun! It's definitely a keeper, congratulations!
