Default New Leupold VX III scopes

Anyone try out the new VX III line of scopes yet? If so, how do they compare to the "old" Vari-X IIIs and other good brands?

I see the new VX III has the index mayched lense coatings, but all my catalogs still show them with the multi-coat #4 . I'd like to find out how they compare also.

Well, the guy in the brown shirt ought to be delivering mine in about 2 or 3 days. I've got a USAF acuity chart I'm going to use to compare the 3.5-10x40 VX III with a couple of Zeiss Conquests. So, I'll try to let you guys know what I find out as soon as I can.

That new Leu is 3.5x10x40 & the new Conquest 4.5x14x44, right?

I can almost hear the calculator clinking now!!

I just put my new VXIII 6.5x20x40 on my .30-378 and love it. 30mm tube, matched lenses and a parallax adjustment on the side turret. Lots of amenities for $600.

I've had a chance to compare the new VX III with my two Conquests. I don't have time to go into details (don't want to anyway), but here are my thoughts: The VX III is a nice scope. The finger adjustable turret knobs and fast focus eye piece are nice, but Leupold is just catching up with the other scope companies with those improvements. Optically, I still think the Zeiss Conquests have a slight edge and I prefer the Zeiss Z-Plex reticle to the Leupold Duplex. The bottom line for me is that I don't think Leupold broke any major new ground with the VX III, I still like the Conquests better. The Leupold will be going back in the box for now until I buy my son's first deer rifle later this year.
