Help with scout mount

I'm thinking, I want to get a xs Scout mount for my 444marlin, which I would order from Natchez Shooters Supply, however in their catalog it says this mount "works with leupold and burris scout scopes" because of this I ask, do I need to get a burris or leupold scout scope for this mount, because I can't really afford them. Is there something about other scopes that make it non-compatable with a scout mount? -Thanks

I have been looking at doing the same thing. The reason those two scopes are mentioned is eye relief. You need to use an intermediate eye relief scope as the mount postions the scope well forward on the rifle. A standard 3-4 inch scope won't work, as I recall the Leupold has about 9 inches of relief. They are on sale at Cabelas for $219 right now with free shipping. Get the 2.5X IER scope......

Could some handgun scopes also work

any hang gun scope will work. they are designed for up to 24 inches of eye relief
