What bullet weights and brands are you using?

Going to be using mine for deer, coming from using 12 gauges since forever. Just looking for opinions. Not into hand loading, so factory ammo is what i would purchase. Anyone have really good results with their brands?

My father has shot a truck load of deer with Rem. 150 grain bronze points. It's an excelent bullet for rib shots, as it's quite explosive. Lately he has been useing Rem 150 cor-loks as the bronze points can be harder to find. He also shot a couple with Winchester 165 grain, but i'm not sure of the bullet design.

The 30-06 has enough power that any of the 150 or 165 grain bullets should work just fine! That's the advantage of useing something bigger than, say a .243 win..

In my opinion, anything "heavier" than the 165's are too heavy for deer sized game, as unless they hit bone, they don't always expand well. Stay away from all the "match" bullets too.

Excluding full metal jackets most any bullet weighing at least 150 gr. will work fine for whitetail and mule deer. These bullets do not have to be of the premium type. Many a deer has been taken with the 150 gr. core-lokt and the 150 gr. power point. The best thing to do is buy a few boxes of ammo from different manufacturers and use the one that gives you the best accuracy. One load that has given me good accuracy is the Federal Premium 165 gr. Sierra Game King Boat tail soft point. This load is a good deer buster also. However if you get good accuracy from the Remington or Winchester loads save yourself the money and use them because dead is dead!

I started out using 180 gr Rem pointed soft point and they worked fine for 10 years on deer and a moose. I recently re-scopped my gun and switched over to Winchester Ballistic Silver tips in 180 gr. These have worked great for me this year on 2 deer. Dropped both were they stood. If you are going to hunt "just deer" 150-165 will be sufficent.

Make sure you check your regulations as full metal jacket bullets are illegal in most states.

I prefer the Remington Core-Lock in 165 grain bullets. That is what my rifle really liked and produced the best results with.

I suggest that you buy a box of 4-6 different brands and grain bullets to see what shoots out of your rifle the best. Some rifles are very particular and will only shoot a good grouping with 165 grains (this was the case with my old deer rifle). Some rifles will shoot good groupings with all bullets, it is just a test to see which one your particular rifle likes.

If you post the brand and model rifle that you will be using there is bound to be someone here that shoots the same and they will usually give you a bullet recommendation for it.

I have a new Win. Model 70. I was shooting PMP's and Rem Core-lokts. 165 grain PMP's and 150 grain Rem's. Have yet to sight it in, been way to cold here in the midwest.

When i shot factory bullets i had excellent results with Hornady 150grn Spire Points and Federal Premium 150grn Soft Points.
