States that have enacted CCW permits have seen a marked decrease in violent crimes on persons. States that refuse to enact such laws, and have very strict gun control legislation, continue to lead the country in violent crimes. Guess bad guys don't like having to guess whether or not a person may or may not have a gun on them.
I've had a permit for 8 years now (since Oklahoma first enacted it). Luckily, I've never needed to use it, but it is comforting to know it's there sometimes. Shootings are becoming a common place thing where I live now and I am comfortable knowing that I, at the very least, am on equal ground as the assailant except for the element of surprise.
I carry a Kimber Pro Elite .45 acp. I keep it loaded with 230 grain Winchester JHP's. Funny looking bullet. Has little notches around the hollow point and it's all black.

Anyway, the gun is 100% reliable or I wouldn't carry it. I carry it Condition One meaning safety on, round in chamber, hammer back. (the only way to carry a 1911 or any of it's clones).
The Glocks are reliable firearms and should serve you well. They are a little wide across the slide and this can make them slightly more difficult to conceal, but it can be done. I like using a paddle holster. I often wind up going some place that guns aren't allowed and it's much easier to leave it in the car that way.
Good luck.
