Default Rem 700 Classic in .300 WinMag Question

Hi all,

I have a chance to swap a bow for a Rem 700 Classic in .300 WinMag and being an archery fanatic and very rarely shoot a rifle, I would like your opinions on this. I plan on using the gun for elk primarily. One thing I am concerned about is recoil, I have never shot one of these and I can handle 30.06's and my .308 ok and muzzleloaders ok. Will the recoil/blast be much more than a .06? I dont want to gfet a gun and hate to shoot it but I would only be shooting it to sight it in for a hunt and hopefully on the hunt. I am not a regular rifle shooter (target, etc). I think it is a great deal but would like to hear from you Xperts also.

Thanx alot and good shooting !

Default RE: Rem 700 Classic in .300 WinMag Question

Hi Jerry:

The .300 Winnie does not have that much more recoil than the .308 or '06and seems about 300 - 400 fps faster (than the .308). If you don't plan on shooting much, things are getting awfully crowded in the .30 cal dept for you, and the .308 will do everything you will need. Can you swap for anything else??

Happy hunting.

Had that same gun recoil was not an issue ...the stock is pretty straight and the gun is relatively ligh... I would look for something in stainless and synthetic though

I ended up with my 700 Classic as part of a trade also and not really impressed with the bluing on the thing...feel the bluing on a Ruger 77 is much better . If you plan on hunting it in all types of weather a stainless gun while not completely maintenance free would be easier to maintain.
