Default bipods on barrel

I just bought a used 22-250 barrel for my encore. The Harris bipod is attached to the barrel with a special clamp. Is this bad? Will it effect my groups due to the barrel not being free floating?

It would be my guess that this arrangement will not be good for accuracy.

Try it and report back your results.

It would have to effect accuracy. Your barrel would be subject to varying amounts of upward pressure depending upon how you were shooting, offhand, sitting, lying, etc.

No, it's not good for accuracy. It would be much better to mount it to the forearm, and to float the forearm. In fact I'm in the middle of that project right now. Although I'm likely going to end up making my own forearm as I'm not happy with the factory version, and can't justify the cash for a custom set. But, the first thing I would do is take the band off the barrel, and see what it'll do.

Most of the Law enforcement snipers in the state of WI shoot from either a bipod or a pack. Of the guys that use bipods they are always mounted to the stock through the front sling mount. There is a screw you loosen and then the bipod clamp goes around the front sling post.

I can assure you it will affect your accuracy if anything touches the barrel, or if the barrel is touching anything when you shoot. When you shoot from a bipod it will also help your accuracy if you make sure the feet of the bipod are not restricted and can move back and forth when you shoot.
