Default Bases and rings for Savage 110

I have a Savage 110 .30-06 that I bought as a package gun about 4 years ago. It has a Bushnell 3-9 X 32 on it. I want to get a better scope (finally) for it. I have narrowed the scope down to a Leupold VX-II, Bushnell Elite 3200, Nikon Buckmaster, or Simmons Aetec. Most likely a 3.5-10 power scope or so. I just recently bought a Leupold VX-I for my NEF .223. (The price for the scope and gun were the same) I think it is fair to put the same amount into the scope as the gun. I have the Millet Angle-Loc rings attached, which I really like. I noticed one thing, though. When I put the scope next to the action on my .30-06, there is NO WAY that a scope that short will fit that long action without some special mounts I'm sure. What mounts and rings are you guys using for Savage long actions of either Millet or Leupold and the above stated scopes? Need to know as I will be buying the scope in the next couple of months. Thanks guys!

You can get Millet extension rings. That will cure your problem. They allow you to put a pretty short scope on a long action. I love the Millet windage adjustable rings. They should have extension rings at any good stoere that sell Millet rings.

I have two of those rifles. On one, I bought a longer scope which solved the problem. On the other, I used a one-piece base and moved the rings closer together. It only took about 1/4". I found that most scopes are only about 1/2" too short to use separate bases, so it is pretty close.

If I remember correctly, the scope needs to be at least 5 and 1/2" long between the two points where it begins to "bell" out in order to fit the regular bases.
