"Short" and "long" cartridges in the same rifle
If one has a single shot rifle chambered for 357 Maximum, I presume the 357 Magnum and 38 Special can be shot in it.
I once read that such a rifle chambered in 444 Marlin could also shoot 44 Special and 44 Magnum shells. Is that true?
If one has such a rifle chambered in 454 Casull, what other cartridges can be used?

Wouldn't be a good idea to try and shoot 44 Spec or 44 Mag out of a 444 Marlin. The case diameters are different which could lead to a split case and hot gases and other nasty stuff in your face. A 454 Casull can shoot 45 Colt cartridges.
