hey all i was just wondering how much damage a winchester ballistic tip .243 55gr bullet would do to a coyote standing broadside at 100yards. how much would the same bullet in 95gr do?

how much difference in damage would there be from a 55gr bullet to a 110gr bullet?

im just wonderin cuz i still cant decide on if i want to get a .22-250 or a .243 and i was just wondering if 40-55gr .22-250 would do more damage to a yote since they faster or 55-95gr .243?

if i get the .22-250 theres all kinds of varmint loads for it but for the .243 i havnt noticed many factory 55gr cartidges.....

be shootin stuff from crows to yotes out to 400 yards (usually around 250yard shots) and theres not many days that theres no wind at all....usually like 5km-10km winds....

i DONT handload so i will only be usin factory loads and i will NOT be using it for ANYTHING larger than coyotes.

I can't really tell you how much dif. you to expect from the bullets you mention and I don't really know what dif. it makes both rounds will do the job you are asking of them the 243 buck the wind better than the 22-250 and with solid bullets will do less pelt damage if that is a concern if not either one with varment style bullets will considerable damage. don't know if that helps any but my choice would be 243 for what thats worth.[8D]

That's because a 55-grain bullet is too light for the .243 bore! You can get tremendous velocity initially, but it drops off extremely fast, and is very sensitive to a little breeze. IMO, you will lose all the advantage that goes with a .243" bore for varmint shooting if you use such a light slug in it!! Use at least an 80 or 85 grain bullet!!

I've got a feeling most bullets from either of those calibers will exit on broadside shots. The light bullets from the .22-250 might not if shooting "end to end", where as most bullets in any of the 6mm's probably will, (in case that matters?).

If there is a chance the rifle will be used on game heavier than "yotes" then I would choose the .243! But for your stated purposes either caliber should just about be the ticket.

Personally, I'd handle a number of different rifles...until I found one I liked....and could "get a good deal on".....and that's the one I'd buy. I doubt you'd be disappointed in either!

The problem with answering your question is, we don't know the exact construction or velocity of each of the bullits you asked about. So, all of the answers can only be "general" in nature.

In most cases, the 243 will go through animials of that size, as will the 22-250 with any of the heavier bullets.

The 22-250 will have a bit less recoil, and will be a little cheaper to handload for.

also a 55 grain bullet for the 243 would be to short and stubby, probably not stabilize having vry poor accuracy or just tumble

so if i get the .243 with a 95gr ballistic silvertip then that would be a good bullet? i just want to ensure ill be able to make like 350-400 yard shots.

what factory ammo do u all use in .243's or .22-250's and what have been your results at long ranges?
