Any more killing power with rifled barrel
I realize you get a lot more accuracy with a rifled shotgun barrel. But does it increase the killing distance you can shoot over a smooth bore. I live in Ohio and shotguns are all we can use. About 50 yards is as far as I shoot with my smooth bore rem. 1100 with open sights using 2.75 in slugs.

RE: Any more killing power with rifled barrel
if your shots are like mine under 50yds. that is one reason why i have not used the rifled barrel. only reason why i am using the rifle barrel again is cause i will be using it stalking in the swamps and stillhunting.
but if your shots are under 50yds 75max. regular smooth bore shotguns will do fine.
on that note i took a 8 pointer dressed out at 155lbs with the rem 1100 with the rifled barrel. sho tthe deer at 10 paces and i did not see any differance between hitting a deer with a sabot or using a lead slug. just one is more expensive.
i would say not go for it unless your shots will be over 75yds constantly. i like lead slugs and buckshot in one of my setups.
but will come down to what you want to do.
like others have said you get the best results with these rifled barrels accuracy wise past 50yds. both the rem copper solids and rem lead slugs shot the same at 50yds. but i get better groups past that.

The answer to your question is, GENERALLY, NO! The ammo manufacturers have designed their slugs for rifled barrels so that they have about the same absolute maximum range as those used in smoothbores. The reason for this is so that they will be permitted to be used in the same palces that the smootbore slugs are legal. There may be some excweptions to this, but it is generally true.
Of course, the rufled-barrel type slugs give more accuracy, and consequently are more effective for hunting purposes than the smoothbore type. But they won't travel any farther if fired up at a 30 degree elevation. Both will fall to earth at about the same distance from the muzzle.
