Who makes the BEST 308 rifle ??
I'm not really concened in the price. I'm willing to pay up to $1200.00 for the gun.I want it to be damn near laser accurate with the optics. I am Willing to spend up to $600.00-$800.00 on the optics. I hear Ziess is good for optics. But I am still confused on the brand of gun and stock. I am 16 and have just begun the sport of hunting this year and have spent this season scouting and tracking. I am saving for the gun and optics to start hunting next season; however, I will hunt during the upcoming turkey season , I already have a 12ga. for that. Anyway , all opinions , facts , and comparisons and welocomed and appreciated.

MY opinion only, the Sako .308 with the full length manlicher stock has always been my favouite. For true accuracy buy a decent used remington, then when you can afford it tune the trigger, pillar bed the action, upgrade the barrel, etc. The most accurate .308 I own is a $200 remington model 788. It is twice as old as you are and shoots like it shouldn,t. Buy a rifle that fits you well, or that you can grow with. Anything you like can be tuned to be more accurate. Good luck.

Sako, Tikka get my vote but don't forget about CZ. They come with a single set trigger and I haven't seen a bad shooter yet.
Then there is always a Savage for good right out of the box accuracy and adjustable triggers also.
You can't go wrong with the .308 for all around POTENTIAL accuracy.

Bibbore , what do you mean by "stepper"??
aunsaber , sako , tikko , and cz , where can i look up these , so i can look at them and read some about them.
Another question , while i have some attention. What is the biggest game species this gun could take with accurate shot placement and from what distances. And is the .308 considered more powerful or larger than a 30/06 or compared to the .270 ?? And compared to the 300 as well. I just want to know the order of power , what's conciderd larger or stronger than the other.
As well as the first question of who makes the BEST .308 ??
All opinions , and information is appreciated and welcomed.

RE: Who makes the BEST 308 rifle ??
The 308 has a larger bullet diameter than the 270, however the case is a little shorter. (meaning less powder capacity) The 270 and the 30-06 are from the same cartridge case. The 300 win mag has a larger case again yet the bullet diameter is the same as the 308, and 30-06. Ballistically there is not much difference between the 308 and 30-06 untill you use a bullet over 165 grains. The 300 is the most powerful and typically is used with 180 to 220 grain loads. The 270 typically uses a 140 grain load. I have hunted mountain goat, moose, mule deer amd black bear with my 308. As far as accurate distances for hunting that is a serious matter of opinion on this board. Personally the distance where my shots open to a 4 inch group is the max range I hunt at. I believe that at that distance I can cleanly and ethically harvest game. That distance varies on the rifle. As for your question who makes the best 308 I have been assuming you were looking for a bolt action repeater for hunting. Is this correct or are you looking for a bench rest competition rifle?
