The 7mm RUM has the flattest trajectory of all big game rifles. If I remember right the Rem. fatory loaded 140 NP is only supposed to drop 25" at 500 yds. This is even flatter than the 22-250 with a 50 grain bullet!

The 7 RUM would have to give that 140 grainer over 3650 at the muzzle to shoot that flat.... The figures in the table given above are misleading for the 7 RUM, since it shows a zero of +2.1" @ 200 yards. This is NOT drop from the line of bore!

Uuummm......the M1A1 Abrams, 120mm Smoothbore does a really good job at long range.....(see: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m829a1.htm ).

But I don' t think you' ll shoulder fire it more than once!?!

The 7mm RUM may or may not be the flattest shooting " factory" standard cartridge.....but undoubtedly there are flatter shooting " wildcats" . I would venture a guess that all of the " light to mid bore magnums" shoot flatter than 95% of hunters can utilize " accurately" . And even many people that CAN shoot well at extended ranges, on a range, where distances are known and wind patterns can be learned, do not do so as consistently " in the field" .

I know this topic has generated " heated debate" in the past. I would just hope that for every shot taken at " long range" , and every worthy animal that suffers through " less than satisfactory results" , that we could post those instances, (with bylines), for all of our peers to see.

But to get back to the specific question. Most of the ammunition manufacturers post trajectory information concerning cartridges they load. Additionally many of the firearms manufacturers do likewise for their " brandname" cartridges. Outside of those two sources, (and probably the best place to look), would be the loading/reloading manuals. And there are ballistics programs available for PC' s that will calculate trajectories after component info is loaded.

Good luck on your search!

Lazzaroni has some pretty flat shooters that will outdo the RUM .. I also read about a .257 hot tamalli (sp) They said it will shoot 0-500 yds and still be in the kill zone on a deer size animal..I think it was a STW necked down to .257 ...Bill

338- I' ve heard about that cartridge, but have not seen any data on it. Probably is flatter than the RUM.
