What size rings for Leupold VX-II?

First off, thanks to all for their input on my Leupold vs. Nikon post. Now for the next question. I haven' t picked up my new 700 ADL yet and my new Leupold VX-II scope should arrive by this Thursday. Rifle season is just around the corner so I' m doing my best to get all the " small stuff" taken care of now, so that once I get the gun and the scope, I can slap the scope on and get it sighted in.

I looked up the recommended Base Fit & Ring Height Info on Leupold' s website, and it recommends the Leupold Low 1" rings for my scope, but all I could find at my trusty Wal-Mart were the Medium 1" rings. Will they work just as well or should I keep searching for the low rings?

Jimbo, I had a Vari-X II 3x9x40mm on a Browning A-Bolt until I replaced it with a Vari-X III 4.5x14x40mm. I used Leupold' s low rings to mount the 3x9 though. They placed the scope nice and close to the barrel which is what you should strive for. The medium rings will work also but the scope will sit higher off the barrel which is unneccessary. I would order some low rings from Midway or Natchez, or someplace like that and get that new scope as close to the barrel as you can without it touching. Good luck!

Low ,medium or high rings will all work ,but you will change the way your stock fits you to adjust for the height of the rings .

The mediums will work....but I agree with MOTurkeyTamer! The lower, ie. closer to the bore...the better. If you have the time...get the low rings! The higher the scope sits above the bore, the higher your face will be from the comb, (and more likely the rifle is to recoil harder into your face).

If its a 40mm scope any of them should work, but if you go with a 50mm you might want to make sure the low rings will be high enough for the scope to clear your barrel.

If it suggest you use low than I will assume you have a 40mm objective. I would also suggest you buy a low mount set by leupold, for reasons stated by others.

On all my 40 mm scopes I use Medium rings.They work well for me. I agree you want to keep your scope as low as possible.I personally like the Redfield line of bases and rings.
