Default Thanks Gun Talkers

I have been semi retired for several years now. Unfortunately Its because of Disability. We also moved here from where I lived all my life so I don' t know many people here. My brother lives here and he and I are all thats left of our immediate family. We stayed near where we were raised until both my Wifes parent and mine were gone. My wife likes to hunt and shoot and goes with me on most of our deer hunts. She does not however give a hoot about calibers and ballistics and bullet perfomance or hunting accessories and all the good stuff. She likes her 250-3000 and as long as she has shells and the weather isen' t to bad she is a happy hunter. So I come here to bend you guys ear and sometimes argue about this and that and someone will always be here to listen or I should say read and respond. I am a total Gun nut and have been since I was six and my Grandpa and Grandma got me my first air rifle. The whole family from the Granparents to the youngest cousin all got to together a hunted everything. I was a very lucky guy with a great family. Now as Thanksgiving draws near and without getting mushy, I appreciate all of your company on this old computer. So thanks to all and I hope you have a great hunting season and another great year of getting ready for the next season as I know that many of you just like me live for the next one. I hope this is not in the wrong forum. One last thing, Thanks for trying to interpet my spelling and grammer. I was always good with a hammer and saw but not at the writing desk and typewriter.

James B,

I understand your feelings completely....it is nearly like being at hunting camp....without actually having to be at hunting camp, (at least for a few minutes out of each day)! It is indeed nice to have a forum to share, argue, express opinions, with others that share a " common interest" , even though not always the same opinions. But wouldn' t life be boring if everyone liked all the same things and never had differences of opinions. (Not to mention in reality we could probably all " get by" with no more than a .22LR, a .30-06, and a shotgun! Well maybe a handgun, and .......hehe........but life sure would be dull and uninteresting.) Please!!!!! Do NOT leave non-shooting or non-hunting spouses, (or significant others), read that last thought!!!!

Thanks for sharing....looking forward to sharing thoughts into the future!

Hey James,
Always like to read your posts as well, nice hearing from a North Dakota boy. Reminds me of the times I drove across I94. Especially around Medora and Therodore Roosevelt N.P. (North Dakota badlands). Most people are always stunned when I tell them about the scenery in ND. They usually say something about sagebrush ang tumbleweeds, I let them think that keeps it comparatively uncrowded compared to SD and the rat race around Rapid City.

Anyway what' s your wifes .250 savage chambered in? M99? I bought a Ruger RSI in .250 sav and was planning on working up some loads this winter for it. Would be interested in any knowledge you have on this cartridge. Good Luck hunting this year. NBH.

My wifes 250 is chambered in the 700 Remington classic. I forget what year they made that one but it must have been in the first 10 years because we have had it for quite a while. I think it the mildest recoiling rifle for the killing power that I have seen. We have shot a lot of big mule deer with it and have yet to loose one. I reload for it but would be happy with just the winchester silvertip if thats all I could get.
North Dakota is a pretty state with lots of room. My niece lives up at Minot now and works for Pepsi. I am amazed when I drive accross southern ND and Northern SD. Many places you can drive 100 miles and never meet another car. Northern SD has got to be one of the least sparsley populated areas in the lower 48 states. You can head from Newell west toward Lemmon at night, about 125 miles and not see another car or a light from a farm or anything. Buty its COLD. We well may not see 40 degrees again until April. Lots of 20 below or so on its way.

James,

Yeah I found out about the ND cold[][X(] it was early September around Labor Day and I spent a night at a rest stop around Buffalo. Woke up in the early a.m. with a thick frost on the windshield[][]. I did have some old wool blankets though, and I wasted no time getting them from my duffel.
