My Father in Law recently hurt 2 discs in his back and pinched a nerve in his neck at work and his primary rifle is a fairly light 7mm Mag.
He was concerned about the recoil so he decided to break out his father' s Pre 64' Winchester Mod 70 in .270 to sight in for the season in favor of it' s lighter recoil.........only problem is that the stock is cracked badly completely through from forend to the floorplate.
I surprised him with a synthetic stock that I picked up at Cabelas the other day, and got the rifle from him to install it. Well it doesn' t quite fit for some reason, but that' s not the issue here.
The issue is the rifle' s safety/trigger.
I was working the bolt , playing around with the safety (Gun unloaded of course) and decided to check it ........I flipped it on safety and pulled the trigger. I " felt" the sear give? But it didn' t trip the firing pin. HMmmmmmmmm
So I then flip the safety to the ' fire" position and CLICK! off she goes!
The rifle won' t fire if you hit the trigger on safe, but as soon as you flip it to fire.......IT FIRES!
] It does it everytime.
It will even do it from the bolt lock position, then to the fire position.
I wonder how many years either of them have hunted with that rifle like that? Could you imagine sitting on stand one cold day with a pair of fluffy gloves and accidentally push the trigger while its on safety........then as that big buck walks up as you are starting to line up your sights, you flick off the safety and BOOM!!

Talk about a safety issue, no pun intended.
Has anyone heard of or experienced such a problem? I plan to take it to a qualified gunsmith ASAP.
Also ,does anyone know where I can get a Wood replacement stock for this rifle if I get the safety issue worked out? Turns out this is the 3rd Synthetic stock that has been tried on this gun and none of them has fit. Long action Pre 64' .
