Default Sighting in Rifles

This may be a stupid question but when I sight in rifles should I have the scope set to it' s highest, lowest power. Or should it be some where in the middle or doesn' t it matter? Thanks

I does not matter. Your scope should have the same point of impact on every setting. If your scope does not have the same point of impact at every setting, you need a new scope.

It will not matter on a quality scope but I use the highest power to ensure the most accuracy.Besides you usually use the highest power for the longest shots anyway.

Warne makes excellent bases and rings, 100% steel. You can order direct from Warne if you can' t find the bases locally.

keep it on the highest power, but also mix in some shots with what you might hunt with it on. For instance, if you have a 3-9X, sight her in on 9X, then, if you intend to hunt woods, turn it down to 3-4X and shoot some rounds there to check point of impact.

It don' t matter. I use the highest power for on the range and generally hunt with it in the middle. It hasn' t made a bit of difference in my years of doing so.

I agree with the guys. On a good scope it really won' t matter. But as a matter of course I normally zero my rifle scopes on their highest setting, (it allows me a better sight picture of the target).

And I agree with Big Bore. After the rifle is zeroed....take a couple of shots at different power settings to insure there is no shift in Point of Impact (POI). If it does nothing else.....it removes all doubt from your mind prior to the hunt....which is in itself an important consideration!

Good luck!
