I have a Remington 700 BDL, use it for long range across cranberry bog deer hunting. I hand load 165 ga. Sierra HPBT game kings over a charge of IMR 4350. does and excellent job.
I also had it Mag Na Ported.

I'd choose a 30-06 over the heavy kicking 300 Win. Mag. The 30-06 is cheaper and does soooo many things well. I just don't need a magnum for deer hunting.
My first choice: Tikka
second choice: Ruger or Winchester

With a proper bullet and bullet placement, a .30-06 will have no problem killing any deer on the planet. I hunted with a .30-06 for about 15 years, and put a pile of deer and elk in my freezer with it.
I now hunt a lot with magnum calibers because of their flatter trajectory more than their increased energy, although I still like to get as close as I can for the shot.
A couple of weeks ago I shot a friends '03 Springfield .30-06 and after the first shot I turned to him and said "Wow, this thing kicks more than my .300 Weatherby!"
I only shoot handloads in all of my guns, and because of the increased powder charge, it only costs me $0.11 more to load a .300 Weatherby shell than it does to load a .30-06 shell.
