I hunt with a muzzle loader but if I was going to go with a slug gun the H&R would be it. A buddy shoots one, very impressive!

I will add a +1 to the Rem 870, have one with a field barrel and a cantilever rifled barrel. 20g might be best for those who prefer less recoil.

When you buy the Remington 870 slugger it comes with cantilever barrel.
My 20ga. does a great job with Remington 2 3/4 Buck hammers that Remington for some reason decided to drop. I don't have my barrel pinned or a Timney trigger up grade.

True, but not the Combo, so consider that if you are looking at the Combo package.

I'm not buying a slug gun this year, but if I was, I'd go with an HR also. Buddy has one in 20 gauge, VERY impressive shooter.

not 100% true, I've seen them for sale only at Dicks Sporting Goods, the stock and foreend is in olive green not black, and the the stock isn't Monte Carlo, which I like but not a total deal breaker

The remington 870 combos they have at bass pro in Baltimore has the cantilever scope mount but on the 12 ga guns only it is more then the plain combo.

IF l were to HAVE to use a slug gun instead of my 460, it would be a 220. No other decision. BUT!! I would have that guns for at least 6 months prior to using it to get it a "ME" go over. Full action, bolt and trigger job. Honed, polished and tweaked to the 9's. Then comes the rounds. AFTER mounting a quality Burris scope on Warne mounts and rings.
