Default Cutdown my stock on my 25-06

The stock on my Rugar #1 25-06 was a little long for me (and most people) but I just couldnt bear the idea of cutting into that nice looking gun. I hunted with it sparingly because the fit just wasnt quite right. I finally decided to take it into a gunsmith and have him cut down the stock. He took about an inch off and man is it nice now. I definatley have my choice gun for this season.
The gunsmith did an excellent job and you cant even tell by looking that anything was done. My question is: Do you think the monetary value of the gun is affected by this?

I think it will definitely cause resale value to drop. But it' s far more important that you like it.

You did the right thing.

As long as it fits you right that' s all that counts.Cutting the stock distracted from the value some.If you plan on keeping it and using it,I wouldn' t let the value bother me.I think you did the right thing taking it to a competitent gunsmith getting a first class job done. The Ruger #1' s are a good shooting rifle and will give you many years of good service.

I never recommend selling a gun anyway. Make them all heirlooms, and you will have an investment worth something way better than $300 quick dollars. Plus, the Ruger #1' s are just sweet looking, great shooting rifles. It will definitly drop resale value, but you will quickly make that back in coyote pelts, venison, or any other game you pop with that shooter. Good hunting.

Like Big Bore said, never sell a gun.As soon as you do then you will want it back. I think you did the right thing by making it fit YOU>

My problem is that they are always too short for me.

Don' t worry about the resale value cause you never get what you paid for it any way.
