Once you have picked a caliper of your gun then what? I have been looking at many different makes and models of guns and I think that I really like the ruger bolt action guns. Has anyone ever used these guns? If you have can you please tell me how they performed for you.

I had one. Had to tape a quarter to it to make it worth throwing away. Best group out of it with any ammo was 2" at 100 yards. Not acceptable. Trigger was terrible. The whole thing was just junk. I buy nothing but Savage now for boltguns. Shoot like a dream right out of the box.

I had an older ruger 77 heavy barrel in 220 swift and it was a good shooter.I didn't much care for the trigger or the tang safety but otherwise it was a good gun.Ruger has changed the safety on the new model 77's to a much better design.

I've got three Rugers, a 6mm Rem, 2-.270Win.With the 6MM I can get handloads to shoot 1/2" to 5/8" groups @ 100yrds, using Sierra or Nosler bullets. My .270 shoots either Sierra 140gr SPBT, or Nosler 140gr Balistic Tips into3/4" at 100yrds. I bought a Laminated Stainless Steel MKII, While breaking the barrel this fall I was getting 1/2" groups using Sierra 140gr bullets. The MKII has a long gritty trigger pull (I plan on replacing it with a Timney trigger) The Laminated stock is slick, which a checkering job will cure. I've heard of some Rugers with poor accuracy, haven't seen them personaly at the range.

My ruger MK-II M77 stainless steel in .243 is a tack driver!. I'm getting 1-1.5" groups at 200 yards. Thats good enough for me for hunting! IM not looking to shot the eye out of a fly at 200 yards!

Hell, that was with Winchester Super-X 100grain "cheapy specials" too. I think I have a winner. I got the gun this season and so far here's the score:

Ruger .243 vs wild boar....1 to 0
Ruger .243 vs mule deer....1 to 0

Pretty good score i'd say.
P.S. I also love my Savage and would buy another one in a heart beat. That gun is even more accurate and cheaper cost too!

Here is a oldie but goddie.

I have 3 Ruger 77 bolt action rifles. they work fine for me and do the job I got them for.
I did need a smith to adjust the trigger on the Swift but other than that they are stock out of the box.

Ruger 77- 22lr Ruger 77-220 swift and Ruger 77-243.

I do admit I have more Remington 700's how ever.

That's your problem and not mine, but I can say that Rugers are still as good now as when the OP started that thread 13 1/2 years ago, LOL! I wonder if the OP has ever picked the right CALIPER yet!

older Rugers are very good, the new ones I don't like.

What's your budget for gun/scope?

Who are you asking that question, as this thread that was just brought back up is 13 1/2 years old? I know the older Rugers like I own are real good and may be better than the newer ones, but I still don't think you can beat a new Ruger for the money they are asking.
