You should get in touch with ruger redhawk on here, he shoots a savage hummer and is a real friendly guy.

Just about everyone with a .17 HMR likes their gun and say they shoot superbly.

You should put a scope on it...3 X 9 maybe and you should have no trouble varminting at least 150 yards. Try to pick days where there' s very little wind.
