Default Butch Bore Shine

Got a small bottle at no charge from a buddy. I noticed a lingering smell like paint thinner, when I opened tonight...oh it does clear the nostrils. I ran a few patches through a fairly clean barrel(although not sure when I gave it the once over to my old 3030) and was amazed that it pulled lots of blue for 10-15 wet patches(no brushing & just on a jag). So does it work better than my sweets or just slower? I can' t remember ever taking me 10 saturated patchs to get a clean swab with the other products(BTW my barrels stay pretty clean, I am a little ANAL when it comes to cleaning my stuff).

Any thoughts on this product?

I can' t find sweets or shooter choice around here, I will need a replacement before the end of the year but not sure this is it, so any other brands to look at for copper and powder fouling removal?

Thanks.

Try to get your hands on some Barnes CR-10. Good luck.

Yep,

Butchs will take out copper ........... but it is nowhere near as aggressive as Sweets of CR-10. Light cleaning is great work for Butchs. Heavy copper is a job best left to the heaviweights.

Not impressed with it at all. I think the formulation works much better on really smooth barrels(custom lapped) than it does on factory barrels. I find that I have to do a lot more brushing and JB' ing using it. I have used a lot of it and have switched to Montana Xtreme which is a level more powerful than shooters choice especially on copper but is not harmful long term to your barrel. I would still use Shooters Choice though in a pinch as an alternative. If you really have a lot of copper fouling a Outers Foul Out III is better than any of the chemical alternatives. On a heavily used rifle I use the Foul Out III once a year and montana extreme..shooters choice for regular range cleaning.

I really like Butch' s, but I use it differently than most. I' ll swab the barrel up till its soaking, then leave drain out into an old T shirt overnight. I think this allows the formula to work on the copper and then gets that dissolved copper out of you barrel. Pretty painless too, swab, sit, swab, sit, swab, done (usually).

I realize that some people may not be able to leave firearms out though.
