I bought a Rem. 700 ADL 308 back in March. I still have not put a scope on it yet. If money wasn' t a factor, I would like to get a Leupold VXII. However money is not of abundence. I have had Simmons scopes in the past, but I dont know alot about other manufactures products other than Trashco. Sorry that was actually Tasco. They would be at the very bottom of my list of options. Rifle season is only about a month away so I should settle my mind on something soon. Any suggestions????

Take a good hard look at Bushnell " trophy" and " legend" series of rifle scopes. Bushnell makes good scopes especially for the money they cost. They are one of the very few that actually use one peice tubes even on the less expensive lines of scpopes.
If you can afford a little more (about $200) then the Bushnell elete 3200 in 3-9 X is a great scope also. You get the rain guard coating on the 3200 also.

It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."
I have also had some luck with Bushnell in the past. Currently I am using a Trophy model on a little CZ in .223 without any problems. Though that isn' t exactly a heavy recoiling rifle. Bushnell' s Elite line actually used to be Bausch & Lomb, (a very respected company indeed). I have also had some luck with a number of different Weavers, (though most of them were the old steel tube models....25 or so years ago). Though we did have a more current Weaver 1X3 with a 20mm objective on the wife' s Savage 99/.358 Win. She carried it in Alaska on and off for five years with no problems. Another scope you might want to consider is the new Leupold Rifleman line, (Vari X I). I believe they have two different models a 2X7 and a 3X9 for under $200. I have no experience with these newer Leupolds but I have had excellent service from all the other Leupolds that I have owned. (And if you do have a problem with a Leupold you contact the company, put it in a box along with $10. and return it. I have had to do this twice and the company had the scope repaired and returned in several weeks. Excellent customer service!!!) Don' t be scared off by the fact that I have had to return two Leupold scopes in over 30 years of use. I also once had to return a Zeiss 2.5X10 30mm tube with a 50 mm Objective and a steel mounting rail. (About $1,200. retail.) Of course Zeiss of America paid shipping both ways and I had the scope back in less than ten days. Which just goes to prove that you can have a problem with any priced equipment. The important question to ask is if the company stands behind it' s products in a responsible and expiditious manner. Both of those companies do! I also currently own two Nikon Buckmasters that have been giving me wonderful service. (I believe I paid about $180. @.) Additionally Burris scopes have always been problem free for me, (though you couldn' t actually consider them inexpensive).
Good luck with your search!

As lowly as you think Tasco, they are still a much better scope than any Simmons. About 4-5 years ago, I bought 9 Simmons, four 3-10x44 and five 2.5-10x44 Aetec, out of these 9, 2 were bad right out of the box, as in would not focus or parrallex could not be corrected/elimanted. The rest all went bad within 10-200 rounds, as in the magnafication adjustment rings would slide back and forth on the tube a 1/4" and the focus and parrallex made it impossible to see through them much less shoot with them. Needless to say I' ll never use any Simmons product again. I threw every one of them in the trash can and wrote it off as an expensive lesson learned.
Look at the Nikon Buckmaster series. Excellent optics and clearity for the money.

You might look at the Alaskan Guides from Cabelas. I got 1 last year and put on a 450 Marlin and have had no problems. Cabelas also stand behind thier products. Zeak
well , i' m not afraid to sound like a mockingbird , go with the bushnell , you won' t regret it , i haven' t had any experience with cabelas scopes , so i can' t really say anything about the
