I have a Browning Model 81 308win, I purchased new back in 1982.
I love this gun as much now as I did back in 82 when I purchased it.
The only down side to the BLR. Is if you are a person that likes to break a gun down all the way like I like to on a normal. It is 100% a pain it takes a gun smith to do it. Browning does not recommend doing it.
But on the good side mine never needed it Just use spray action cleaners. I did have it broke down all the way and cleaned back in 2000 when I had the firing pin spring replaced.

But I have never used dirty ammo in it

I think he is talking about the BLR not the BL22.

I have 2 BLR's. One in 308 Win. and the other in 358 Win. Both are older rifles. I know of no down side of the BLR design other than a rather poor trigger. One might question the value when compared to the Marlin 336 and Wincherster 94 designs. However the clip feed allows for a much wider range of cartridges. My two have porven to be very accurate. As far as "take down" for cleaning, it is not that difficult unless you want to take the lever action mechanism down to its individual parts. I would not suggest that at all. You can easily keep the action cleaned by using spray action cleaners and typical gun lubricants.

I find the rifle fairly well balanced and the action slick.

My sentiments exactly. It is a strong design and very capable in producing minute of deer. Compared to the now produced Marlins, there is no comparison. The BLR is a winner.

I was probably looking for something possibly a little bigger than a .308. Just wondering about the accuracy?

Have 3....2 in .243 (one is Belgium made, the other was made in ***an) and 1 in .308. All three of them were my grandfathers and all 3 have taken many an animal! They are all shooters...handle and shoot well! Great rifles.
