I always find it a little bit odd that people get so worked up over the weight of their gear when they're packing around a few more double-quarter-pounders-with-cheese than they should be and their "running" shoes are probably found under a half inch of dust in the closet.

Agreed.

If the rifle is accurate, the weight would be great on a mountain hunt. I would be worried about a thin barrel "flicking" factory loads.
