I think I'd opt for the 280 in this rig. The 30/06 is a great round, but I have one. The 308 is great, but the 30/06 gives just a hair more ... not enough to make a difference to the game, but it can be measured. If I didn't already own two 30/06's I'd go with that b/c of ammo availability.

But I don't yet own a 280, always wanted one, ...is a great round and caliber with a ton of bullets out there for the handloader.

wonder why they stop making great rifles? or the mountain titanium? even if they just produced a certain # each year, and when they sold out, you just had to wait til next year/next production run?

probably comes down to making $.02 less per rifle and it's just not worth it.

As much as i'd like to see Remington start chambering the 6.5x284, i think the reason they don't is do to the fact that it eats barrels.

Guys that use them for 1000yd competition are saying that they get a 1000 rounds before the accuracy goes away, and if they have a two turn set back done they can get 500 more rounds out of the barrel.

The 260 is within 150fps or less to the 6.5x284 if you compare them using hodgdon data:

260 Rem; 120 GR. SPR SP Hodgdon H414 .264" 2.780" 42.5grs 2802fps to 45.5grs 2968fps
6.5x284; 120 GR. SFT SP Hodgdon Hybrid 100V .264" 2.780" 46.0grs 2739fps to 50.0grs 2979fps

Nice rifle offered in some very respectible chamberings.I'm just a big fan of B&C stocks.Mainly cause they don't feel right in my hands.
