Default Remington 1100

If you use or have used an 1100, do you think it matters how old it is? I use a 1963 and knock down hundreds of crows every season. What do you think?

Default Rem 1100 ?

It makes no difference how old any firearm is if it does the job.
I have no idea how old my 1100 is. I got it in a trade from a fella who said he bought it new. The shotgun is 2 3/4" chambered without
screw-in chokes. It does the job I expect. I killed a 15lb gobbler this past spring.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

Old one in good shape is better than a newer one that's been neglected. Age itself is of no real issue.

I just got a beat up (handling wear) regular 1100 12 gauge to convert to magnum (project). Wasn't going to pay premium for a minty 1100 magnum and then beat the crap out of it goose/turkey hunting. I kept my old 1100 magnum minty but I babied it afield and camo taped it every turkey season.

It was a pain to do that, so I sold it. IIRC I got it from an estate, unfired, gun was made around 1985. I probably had less than 2000 shots through it. Still looked like new.

This Christmas makes 25 years I've been having mine (20 Gauge). My Dad got it for me when I was 15. Still in great shape and I've never had a problem with it.

The old ones are much better quality than the new ones. I love the old ones, and you should have little to no problems with it. You shouldn't worry about it's age.

As long as it is good shape, age not the issue. One of my favorite deer rifles is a Mauser in 6.5x55 SE amde in 1932. Shoots exceptionally tight groups and is a reliable as any rifle I have.

I bought a 12ga 1100 at a dept store chain back in 1973 or 1974. It was a plain non vented barrel choked Modified for 159.00. I have used it but not in recent years. It has never failed to fire. It even has the original "O" ring seal. This shotgun looks like it's brand new. Remington came out with great shotguns with these 1100's and their world famous 870's.

As for age. Age has nothing to do with it as long as it was maintained.

I bought mine in the same time frame. I replaced the original plain barrel with a newer vent rib barrel with RemChokes back about 13 years ago. I still use it for turkey hunting with an aftermarket choke and Hevishot.

Not long after I bought that 1100 a GS I dealt with traded barrels with me. All he charged me was for just the difference in price of a vented and non vented bbl.

Beater 1100 project coming along (conversion from reg to magnum).
Got a 28" Remchoke steel shot bbl somebody added a gas port to, to convert to 2 3/4" bbl (couldn't shoot mags then).

I filled the offending port and the original is of proper diameter. So it's back to magnum status again. Runs like my old mag bbls did (need a decent 2 3/4" trap load to get it to work right), 300 shots with super handicap, no problems.

Got a magnum sleeve from Numrich's (didn't have them for a few yrs). That was $50 shipped. Ouch.

Swap sleeves, cut stock and add used Remington pad and duracoat the receiver (clean it up a bit) and I'll have a Remchoke 28" 1100 magnum 12, decent shape, for under $300.

Not great, but not bad.

Triples on geese with bismuth #2's in Sept!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
