Default Savage 220 or 212?

Ok I am buying a new slug gun this month and I have decided on a savage bolt action. What I what to know is which gun do you all think is better the 220 or the 212. I have always shot 12 gauges but I am kinda leaning toward the 20 gauge. Also what kind of scope do you have on yours?

Both are great, but with today's slug performance there is just no need to subject yourself to the 12ga recoil, today's 20ga will do the job better without recoil which in return will help you with accuracy. I have the 220f, she is topped off with a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 with medium Grim Reaper one piece mounts and I'm using Remington Accu-Tip 3" shells, and at 100 yards I'm 4" above center with a 5 shot group measuring 3/4", I just love this gun and set up.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

I really like the 20 gauge but most of the guys in my deer camp all believe the 12 gauge is the better way because of the "knock down power". I personally think that if you put a good shot on a deer a 20 gauge should do the job its just tough to get away from the mind set you have been raised on your entire hunting life.

Bigger isn't always better, the 20ga is faster and flatter then the 12ga, and will knock the snot out of deer size game just as good if not better then the 12ga., and the recoil of the 20ga is nothing....screw the 12ga!!!!

I'll be buying the 20 gauge and putting a Zeiss Conquest on it with the Dednutz Game Reaper one piece mounts.

Don't need it here in Socal, because I can hunt with rifles.

.............but it's going to be great for when I go back (home) to NJ to hunt with the boyz.

Good luck with yours this season !!!

I got one in August. Love the way it shoots the 3" Accutips. Here's how we mounted my scope. Nikon Slughunter BDC.
